The pharmacist is a very important person in the field of medicine. Many people are confused as to what does a pharmacist do? In simple words the pharmacist is a medical worker who helps the physicians, dentists and the veterenians by giving the drugs to the patients who are under the medical supervision of the respective doctors. The people who stand at the drug store and gives medicines to the customers' according to the prescriptions, are the pharmacists. Hence now it is quite clear as to what does a pharmacist do?. Many of the pharmacists are in the pharmaceutical research and sales and marketing of the particular medicines for a company. There are 3 types of places where a pharmacist can work, one is the drug store, retail store and hospital outlets. It is very important for them to wear gloves and masks as they are dealing with the patients on every day basis who may be infected with some deadly disease. Hence what a pharmacist does is very important as they are a link between the doctor and the patient. Many of the pharmacist work during the night as there are drug stores that operate for 24 hours. Hence there are different pharmacists for the day and different for the night. Initially the job a pharmacist does was tricky as many people confused it with physicians.
The students from all over who are interested in becoming the pharmacists have to do pharmacology. First they have to take up subjects like mathematics, biology and chemistry and then take Bachelor of Science degree in order to work as the pharmacist. Many of the students do the graduate programs in order to become a pharmacist. In USA what does a pharmacist do, is a very big question because one cannot work as a pharmacist unless and until they have done graduation that has been approved by the accreditation council for pharmacy education. Hence a pharmacist's job is a big deal in USA. Generally the work of the pharmacist is three fold. One is the retailer in which they read the prescriptions and give out the medicines. They also order supplies, advise the doctors on their prescribed medicines, and explain the user on how to take the medicines. Hence the pharmacist's career is an important job. Secondly they work in the hospitals that have their own drug outlets. Then they work in the research centers where they develop new drugs, test the drugs, administer the pharmaceuticals and study the developed drugs for safety. Many have their independent labs. In 2008 the salary of a pharmacist is stated to be $104,260 per year. Hence they are paid well and what does a pharmacist do is as important job as that of doctors. |
