The number of bonds in a DNA is not equal; still, the base pairs have the same width. This is of extreme importance because it keeps the sugar phosphate equal distance apart at all points. Furthermore, the nucleotide sequence on a DNA strand is on the inside of the helix of this strand. While an alternation pattern is present on the outside of the helix. There is a covalent bond present between the sugar phosphate and the nucleotide.
